In his travels he faces mighty opponents like Sagat, Oro, Akuma and Bison the Leader of the Shadaloo organization amongst many other friends and foes.

While fighting Sagat, Ryu unknowingly awakens the Satsui no Hado (Surge of Murderous Intent), a dark evil power fueled by intense hatred and rage, making the fighter unbeatable but with the cost of losing his humanity.

During the events of Street Fighter V, the Satsui no Hado within Ryu was being called out by the consumer of souls. However, in the end, Ryu managed to control and overcome the Satsui no Hado inside him by tapping into the Power of Nothingness to seal Bison.

Victorious and with the Satsui no Hado under control he returns to Suzaku Castle waiting for new challenges to rise up.
